Build a Community With Us! Join Our Minimum Viable Community Challenge

Kirsti Lang

We’re kicking off our own MVC Challenge, a six-week showdown in which we support community builders in getting their dream communities off the ground.

What if you could build your community as part of, well, a community?

On April 4, 2022, we’re kicking off our own Minimum Viable Community Challenge, a six-week showdown in which we support community builders in getting their dream communities off the ground.

Intimidated? Don’t be! Our team will provide worksheets, tips and tricks for engagement and understanding trends, guides for what success looks like, weekly prompts and check-ins, and more!

Each week, we’ll tackle a general theme to set you and your MVC up for success. Here’s a sneak peek:

  • Week 1: Outreach
  • Week 2: Onboarding
  • Week 3: Engagement
  • Week 4: Feedback
  • Week 5: Experimentation
  • Week 6: Ongoing success

Join the MVC Challenge

The challenge officially kicks off on April 4 — we have a prep worksheet to help guide you through the things you should be considering prior to diving into building.

Work your way through this editable MVC Challenge worksheet so you’re ready to start with us!

Rules of the road

  1. Share what you’re working on! Use this opportunity to connect with other community builders and brainstorm ideas.
  2. Use #MVCChallenge to get involved.
  3. Follow along with on Twitter for daily tips related to each week’s theme and our blog for in-depth content.
  4. Join our Slack community to chat with other people participating in the challenge.
  5. Don’t share your community members’ personal info unless you have their permission (e.g. if you’re sharing screenshots of your community’s progress, blur names & images unless your members are okay with theirs being publicly available).
  6. Be supportive of other people participating in the Challenge. Constructive feedback is good, criticism is bad.
  7. The usual Community Club Code of Conduct applies to this Challenge and participants.

MVC Challenge FAQs

Do I have to be a community professional to join?

Not at all! This challenge is all about building together, so it's an ideal way for aspiring builders to dive into community — the team at Commsor and The Community Club will be there to support you every step of the way.

Does it matter where I build my community?

Nope, platform choice is up to you. But if you’re looking to get things up and running simply and seamlessly, we’re rather partial to Meetsy, a platform for facilitating member connections. It’s a quick process to get set up, and easy for new members to immediately start participating and meeting others. Bonus: it’s free.

Wait, what is a Minimum Viable Community?

Glad you asked! A Minimum Viable Community is, in essence, the smallest group of people needed to come together for a shared purpose — to create a community. Read Minimum Viable Community: What It Is and How to Build One for more details.
